Profile

Franklin D Dacosta is a Lecturer in the Department of Tourism Management, at Cape Coast Technical University (CCTU). He is currently the Senior Hall Tutor at the University Hall. He was formerly the Director, of the Institute of Open and Distance Education (IODL), the Departmental Liaison Officer for the Department of Tourism Management. Franklin has been an academic staff of the CCTU, formerly Cape Coast Polytechnic, since 1st April 2003, some 20 years till date. During this period, Franklin has contributed greatly to the growth of the University in the areas of teaching, research and grants or project proposal writing, and has also been active in the invigilation of end-of-semester examinations for the past 20 years as part of his community service.
In the area of teaching, he has participated in the training of over one thousand and two hundred graduates of the Department from 2003 to 2020.

He has also supervised ninety-two (92) project works over the period. He has participated in the development of curricula for the Tourism Department, including the curricula for the B.Tech. Tourism Management programme, both the top-up and the Four-Year programmes, which are at various stages of accreditation by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC); the re-accreditation of the HND Tourism programme; and the CTVET-accredited Diploma in Tourism and Hospitality Management programme and a team member of CTVET Tourism Curriculum Development for Technical Universities in Ghana; organized by GTEC and CTVET. Also, a team member of CTVET Tour Guiding Skills Area Curriculum Development, organized by CTVET

In the area of research, Franklin has published a number of articles published in both local and international journals. Essentially, Franklin’s research into forts and castles in Ghana in line with slavery earned him a contract with the University of Michigan Ann Arbor, Taubman College of Architecture. Also a visit to the childhood home of human rights activist W.E.B Dubois in Massachusetts-USA and other conferences in Worcester and Harvard. He was also the Country Director for the Maymester program for the University of Austin – Texas-USA. Franklin was also an intern with Conservation International (CI) and Smithsonian USA.
