Profile

Ing. Dr. Gabriel J. Amissah, is an Engineer, a Lecturer and a Researcher who is currently
a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Civil Engineering of the Cape Coast Technical
University (CCTU).
He had his Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from the Kwame Nkrumah University
of Science and Technology; MSc Degree in Hydraulic Engineering, with a specialization
in Coastal and Port Engineering from IHE-Delft, The Netherlands; and a PhD in Earth
Sciences (summa cum laude) from the University of Szeged in Hungary.
He has been a recipient of a couple of scholarships: the Netherlands Fellowship (NFP) for
his Master’s Degree, and the Hungarian Government Scholarship (Stipendium
Hungaricum) for his Doctoral studies
He has been with CCTU since 2006 and has risen through the ranks. He is the immediate
past Head of the Department of Civil Engineering, CCTU, and currently the Director for
the Centre for Renewable Energy. The courses he teaches include Research Methodology
(MTech, BTech and HND) Engineering Hydraulics (BTech and HND), Fluid Dynamics
(BTech and HND), Engineering of Hydraulic Structures (BTech) and Coastal and Port
Engineering (BTech).
His research interests include human impacts on rivers, fluvial and coastal
geomorphology, geotechnical engineering and sustainable civil engineering. He is also
reviewer for some renowned scientific journals including Elsevier’s Geomorphology and
the American Society of Civil Engineer’s Journal of Hydrologic Engineering. His on
going research focuses on the development of a flood risk map and early warning system
for the Cape Coast Metropolitan District.
